Anti Seizure Medications

Children with more severe cases of febrile seizures may be prescribed either acute (i.e. emergency) or chronic (long-lasting) anti-seizure medicines and in general they are benzodiazepines or levetiracetam.

In the US the most popular emergency drug is Diastat® (diazepam) and the most popular long-lasting drug is Keppra® (levetiracetam)

In the UK the National Health Service (NHS) is likely to prescribe Buccal-Midazolam (benzodiazepine) as the emergency drug which comes in two (2) brands; Epistatus® and Buccalam®.  For long-lasting medications please consult your doctor.

Please see your doctor for more information or visit the Community to discuss with other parents their experiences with these drugs.
